Graduation is Right Around the Corner - Are You Ready?

Senior year is flying by and graduation will be here before you know it. Don't miss out on capturing this important milestone with professional senior portraits. Here's what you need to know to prepare for your session.

Senior graduation portrait

It seems like just yesterday you were starting your senior year, and now graduation is right around the corner. Between college applications, final exams, prom planning, and all the other senior year activities, it's easy to let senior portraits fall to the bottom of your to-do list. But trust me—you don't want to miss this opportunity to capture this incredible milestone in your life.

Why Senior Portraits Matter

Senior portraits are more than just photos for the yearbook. They're a celebration of who you are right now—your style, your personality, your accomplishments, and your dreams for the future. These images will be cherished by you and your family for decades to come. They'll hang on walls, sit on desks, and be shared with friends and relatives near and far.

Years from now, you'll look back at these photos and remember this exciting time in your life. You'll see the person you were becoming, the confidence you were building, and the bright future that lay ahead. That's why it's worth investing in professional senior portraits that truly capture your essence.

How to Prepare for Your Senior Portrait Session

Book Your Session Early

Don't wait until the last minute! The best dates and times fill up quickly, especially during peak senior portrait season (late summer through fall). Booking 2-3 months in advance ensures you get your preferred date and location.

Choose Your Outfits

Plan 2-3 outfit changes that reflect your personality and style. Mix casual and dressy looks, avoid busy patterns, and choose colors that complement your skin tone. Bring options so we can decide together what works best.

Select Your Location

Northern Arizona offers incredible backdrops from Sedona's red rocks to Flagstaff's urban downtown. Think about what represents you best - natural landscapes, urban settings, or a mix of both. We can visit multiple locations in one session.

Get Your Hair and Makeup Done

Professional hair and makeup can make a huge difference in your photos. Schedule appointments for the morning of your session, and bring touch-up supplies. Keep your style natural and true to yourself.

Bring Props and Accessories

Personal items make your portraits unique - sports equipment, musical instruments, letter jackets, caps and gowns, or items representing your hobbies and interests. These tell your story and add personality to your images.

Prepare Your Parents

Let your parents know they're welcome to attend and can take behind-the-scenes photos. However, I'll be directing the session to keep things flowing smoothly. Their support and encouragement always help you relax and shine!

When Should You Schedule Your Session?

The ideal time for senior portraits is late summer through fall (August - October). The weather is beautiful, the lighting is perfect, and you'll have your images in time for yearbook deadlines, graduation announcements, and college applications.

However, I photograph seniors year-round! Spring sessions (March - May) are also popular, especially if you want to capture the blooming wildflowers or if you missed the fall window. Winter sessions can be stunning too, with snow-capped mountains and dramatic skies.

The most important thing? Don't wait until the last minute. Book your session at least 2-3 months in advance to ensure availability and give yourself plenty of time to prepare.

What to Expect During Your Session

Your senior portrait session should be fun, relaxed, and stress-free! I've photographed over 1,000 seniors throughout my 25+ year career, so I know exactly how to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera—even if you think you're not photogenic (spoiler: everyone is!).

We'll spend 1-2 hours together, depending on your package. I'll guide you through poses that look natural and flattering, and we'll capture a variety of shots—some serious, some smiling, some candid. We can incorporate your personality, hobbies, and interests to make your portraits uniquely yours.

After your session, you'll receive your edited images within 2-3 weeks through a private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your photos. I also offer prints, albums, and wall art if you want to display your favorites.

Don't Let This Moment Pass You By

Graduation will be here before you know it, and senior year only happens once. These portraits are an investment in preserving this special time in your life—a time of growth, achievement, and endless possibilities.
